Scary stuff in Texas

Here is the famous expose John Stossel did on the SPCA in Texas. The SPCA (and other animal control agencies) steal people’s animals and sell them. Sounds unbelievable, right? It did to us too - until it happened to us.

The pattern is that the agency (animal control, police, etc) do the raid on a holiday weekend. The hearing as to the disposition of the animals has to take place within 10 days. Since the raid happens on a holiday weekend, that gives you one less day to find an attorney, and if you have never looked for an attorney (I never had) believe me, it is not an easy process.

Once the disposition of the animals is decided (in my county, they are always given to animal control, but the Justice of the Peace has 4 choices - return them to the owner, have them sold at auction, order them killed, or have them turned over to a nonprofit humane agency) there is NO appeal. That’s right, folks, NO appeal. Texas laws - bad for animals *and* owners.
